About Us

Miss Rachel’s Music Time uses the First Steps in Music curriculum, developed by Dr. John M. Feierabend, which combines the highest quality musical literature with extensive research into the development of singing and movement skills in young children.

“Let us take our children seriously! Everything else follows from this…only the best is good enough for a child.”

Zoltan Kodály

Over the last several decades, families have been redefined. Large extended families living close together have been gradually replaced by smaller, far-flung nuclear families. This shift in the nature of the family has put a strain on the continuation of aural traditions – the passage of songs, rhymes, and stories from one generation to the next. Little by little, the songs and rhymes of our grandparents, their grandparents, their grandparents (and so on) are being forgotten.

“The First Steps in Music series is an attempt to preserve the rich repertoire of traditional and folk literature, and to enable today’s families to recall and learn songs and rhymes that have nurtured wonder and joy in young people for generations. The authentic affection, innocence, and wonder of these songs and rhymes have the potential to plant the seeds for lifelong sensitivity and imagination.”

Please join us at Miss Rachel’s Music Time, and start creating new traditions with your family. The songs you sing to your babies today will be the songs they sing to their babies tomorrow.
